2017 Sefton’s 50+ Olympics

Active Lifestyles 2017 Sefton’s 50 + Olympics Press Release.

In celebration of National Older people’s Day, Active Lifestyles for the sixth year running, hosted their ‘Sefton’s 50 + Olympics 2017’. The event held at Dunes Splash World on the 1st of September was filled with fun packed activities to challenge both the mind and body. This year saw over 100 participants take part.

After breaking out into some groovy moves to warm up, participants took part in a number of activities. To include darts, table tennis penalty shoot out , giant noughts and crosses, well throwing and bowls to name but a few!

After a tasty lunch participants enjoyed some home made cakes baked by the Active Lifestyles team in conjunction with Macmillan’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’. Over £50 was raised for this worthy cause.

Once again a number of organisations attended, setting up stalls holding lots of information about their services. Participants were asked to browse the stands to get the information for the all important quiz. A special thanks to all of those organisations for giving up your time to support the event and providing quiz questions. These included The Fire Service, Sefton’s Advocacy with Older People, Sefton Alzheimer’s Society, Brighter Living, Macmillan, Age Concern, Sefton’s affordable warmth team, Living Well Sefton, The Atkinson Art Gallery and Active Sefton Library Services.

Our teams got together and answered 20 questions before our closing ceremony. All participants received a medal and a goody bag. This year ‘Macmillan’s Minnions’ took third place. Our runners up were The Fit Gits Team. Both teams received certificates. Our winning team this year was ‘Meadows Reluctant Trainers.’ The champions received a trophy and were over the moon with their victory!

Commenting on the day Chloe Redfern, Falls Development Officer for Active Lifestyles and one of the organisers of the event.

“It was lovely to see regulars to the event as well as new faces and we hope everyone had a great day!”

Active Lifestyles would like to thank all staff who helped make the day a success, and most importantly thank you to our wonderful participants! Finally a congratulations goes to the ‘Meadows Reluctant trainers’ for winning this years Sefton’s 50+ Olympics 2017! We hope to see you all again next year.
